The Blue Ridge Parkway  appeals to the nature lover with trails, overlooks, exhibits and visitor centers.

Grandfather Mountain  offers great hiking and the highest peak in the Blue Ridge Mountains, along with the famous mile high swinging bridge, hiking trails, bears, otters, cougars, eagles and deer in natural habitats, picnicking, nature museum, environmental education, gift shops and restaurant.

Tweetsie Railroad  is a family theme park with the famous 3 mile train ride, crafts, live entertainment, country fair rides and a petting zoo. It’s real wild west fun!

Linville Caverns  - With a guided tour, you’ll have the opportunity to encounter what nature created “inside” the mountains. Discover the real lowdown on the High Country 2,700 feet under the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Linville Falls  provides a leisurely hike through the Pisgah National Forest and a view of the natural waterfalls. No admission.

Watauga Lake, Tennesee  - The third cleanest lake in America. Rent a ski, fishing or pontoon boat. Enjoy canoeing, swimming, fishing, waterskiing, jet skiing, and have a picnic relaxing close to the waters edge.

Whitewater Rafting  some of the best rafting in the southeast. Family fun, great excitement and fun adventure!

Golf Several excellent golf courses,  including Sugar Mountain Golf Course, Boone Golf Club, Willow Creek Golf Course, Mountain Glen Golf Club, Mountain Aire Golf Club, and Red Tail Mountain are close by. Private courses like Hound Ears and Beech Mountain are more pricey but offer great golf, too.

Shopping abounds,  with the historic Mast General Store, Tanger Outlets - Shoppes on the Parkway in Blowing Rock,

The Village of Blowing Rock, Boone Mall, Shoppes of Tynecastle, Downtown Boone and numerous art and antique malls. Other major stores like Walmart, K-Mart, and Lowes are located in Boone as well.
